StC: Birthday Wishes

Every year on our birthdays, my mom would ask my sister or I what we wanted for our "Birthday Breakfast" and "Birthday Dinner". Usually lunch didn't get much of an option, since we would usually be at school. My birthday breakfast request was always French Toast. Dinner was always Fried Chicken, Green Beans, Mashed Potatoes, and Chocolate Mousse. My sister's picks were Eggs Benedict for breakfast, and then, Roast Beef, Mashed Potatoes, Green Beans, and Homemade Rolls for dinner. If you're feeling bad for my mom, it gets even better...our birthdays were only three days apart. My poor mom. She never even once batted an eye. She simply started cooking, and with joy. No shortcuts...no instant anything...all homemade.

It's been fun to pass on this tradition with my kids. To have them pick whatever they'd want to eat on their birthday, and then to see them light up when they realize that the meal is centered around celebrating them. All their favorite food, all their family gathered around.

My little boy turns 4 today. He is an absolute joy of a child to have. He is so gifted at so many things, and has a heart of gold. I am amazed at the profound thoughts that come from his little mouth, and yet, he is so full of energy, laughter, and spunk. I'm so thankful God blessed us with him. Last night, as I was tucking him into bed, I asked him, "Ash, what do you want for your birthday breakfast tomorrow?" Then, he proceeded to list it all out...for all his meals.

While, I'm on the subject of birthdays...I'll tell you about our giveaway today! I have a friend, who makes amazing cake. Now, granted, I love dessert. But good cake, is hard to come by. Just ask my friends, who will tell you that I'm not afraid to ask the waiter if the cake will be "dry and mealy", and "if it is, may I send it back". Yes, I'm that bad.

Heather is the owner of Cake Creations, and she works from home, so that she can also be with her two sweetie pies. She made an amazing cake for my little superhero's birthday party this past weekend, with all different superhero emblems all around it. It was so great!

Not only is she wonderfully talented, (and even makes her own homemade fondant) she has great prices! For example, instead of having to pay the normal $4.95 a slice for wedding cake, Heather usually only charges $2 a slice...with layers, and double and triple tiers!! PEOPLE, I'm saying, you don't want to miss out on this girl.

Today, because she's also a big fan of celebrating, she's offered to give a dozen cupcakes away to the lucky winner of our giveaway. Now, I realize that I'm limiting this part of the giveaway to those of you who are somewhat local, but if you're not, and you know someone in central NC, you should definitely tell them about her!

Not to make this post any longer than it already is, but this week is going to be so great! I'm going to be talking all about Thanksgiving...ways you can prepare, things to do now, tips on organizing your dinner...basically, how to have as much fun as possible when we get to that wonderful Thursday in just a couple weeks! Come back tomorrow and see what tips you can take to make your holiday as stress free as possible!

  8. I too have been a victim of time spent with the "dessert snob." I like to think of it as quality control! Good to "chat" yesterday! Would love to win some yumm-o cupcakes for my brood!

    Love ya!
